Archival note

Archival note by A. Schmidt and A. Pichler (2017) on Ts-309: Blue Book, Stonborough’s copy (ÖNB: Cod. Ser. n. 52.856, http://data.onb.ac.at/rec/AL00222940): Title: So-called "Blue Book" (exemplar of Margarethe Stonborough) • Date: 1933-34 • Language: English • Size and binding: Hardback book, 124 leaves, 263 x 205 mm inside a hard blue binding measuring 268 x 210 mm • Pagination and sequence: Pagination typed on the top of the pages and centered: 1-34; 7-96 • Writing instrument: Typewriter (original copy?), handwritten dedication: “Meiner Schwester Gretl zu Weihnachten - Ludwig” in black ink on the inside of the front cover • Provenance: Pierre Stonborough, purchased by ÖNB in 2011 • Comment: The dedication on the front fly leave (page II), "Meiner Schwester Gretl zu Weihnachten / Ludwig", suggests that this copy of the Blue Book was presented by which Wittgenstein to his sister Margarethe. Golden title on the book spine: ”LECTURES”. No handwritten remarks. The fact that there are two separate paginations shows (maybe) that this item was an early version of the final “Blue Book” which Wittgenstein distributed to his students
